About Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre

The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, founded in 2006, is home to the UAE National Space Programme. The Centre builds and operates earth observation satellites, offering imaging and data analysis services to clients around the world. The Centre launched DubaiSat-1, DubaiSat-2, and work is underway to launch KhalifaSat, which is being built purely by Emirati engineers in the UAE. The Centre is responsible for the development of the Emirates Mars Mission and the Mars Hope Probe, a mission to reach Mars orbit by 2021 and gather key science data about Mars’ atmosphere, as well as the UAE Astronaut Programme and the development of the Mars 2117 vision to build a human colony on Mars. The first step in that vision, the Mars Scientific City, will launch in 2020.

Shortlisted space tech startups will win a free exhibition pod at GITEX Future Stars 2018 and will pitch to the MBRSC Space Innovation Challenge Jury Panel on-site for further rewards.

If your ideas and execution seem out-of-the-world, you may even bag an MoU with MBRSC and the opportunity to collaborate on future UAE government space projects.

What is the criteria?

Already rubbing your hands in excitement? First just make sure you meet the below criteria in order to participate:


1.Have a registered company 

2.Have a product or a pilot project

3.The company has to locate its business within the UAE

4.Must be a startup, scale up or young business with products or offerings in the following areas:

  • All aspects of spacecraft software, hardware or enabling technologies, development, manufacture, and testing, of components, as well as propulsion and control methods
  • At this stage, emphasis is given to software projects, however, also hardware related proposals are accepted if at least in the POC stage.
  • On-board data handling and processing systems, optimization of on-board resources and thereby mission enhancements, on-ground data handling, processing, and utilization systems. In particular, value added software systems, algorithms and methods. For example, special purpose processing of Earth observation imagery. This also includes, for example, novel antenna technologies or data transmission and computing systems. 
  • Aside from direct space related applications, also projects are welcome which are aiming to use existing space technologies to enhance quality of life on Earth, especially by reducing the environmental footprint of modern humanity. For example low/zero energy housing, or resource optimization (water) in daily life.
  • Projects and business ideas for outreach and entertainment systems in the field of space research and technologies for the upcoming museum and education facilities of the Mars Science City in Dubai are welcome to apply.
